The Annual Peak to Park Fun Run was held on Sunday in Toowoomba.  We have been participating in this run since its very beginning in 2006, when my husband would run the 10km with our then young children, pushing a double running jogger!  How times have changed in a few short years.  This year saw both children participate in the 4km event (which turned out to actually be 4.8km!) and they both ran the whole distance without walking and no complaining (their little bit of weekly training has paid off).  Hubby ran with Master 9 and I ran with Miss 8. Toowoomba turned on the foggy weather, but the rain stayed away thank goodness, and it was a very enjoyable morning with good numbers turning out for both the 10km and the 4km events.

Congratulations to my friends who competed in the 10km event, with outstanding  times I might add!!  I will get back to doing 10kms eventually! {The recovery from my bought of severe pheumonia has been slow, but I can now find myself jogging 5kms comfortably and am well and truly on the road to full recovery.}

The Peak to Park 4km event starts at the top of the Range at the Picnic Point carpark then heads south to Alderley Street, right into Aberdeen street and then follows the cycle path through to the finish at picturesque Lake Annand Park.  Possibly the only downfall, is the walk back up the hill to picnic point to collect the car at the end!!

The Unfortunate One - It pays to look at a race map!
I have to share what happened when we were walking up the hill to the car after the race.... Hubby and Master 9  were infront of Miss 8 and I, as we were dragging it a bit in our pace walking up the hill.  A lady passed us going up the hill towards picnic point (we had almost walked back to the top) when she turned to us and said "how much further till the finish?"  I thought she had an odd sence of humour and replied with "are you joking?"  she again asked "where was the finish?".  I was shocked then to realize that she was totally off track and had gone the wrong way on entry into Lake Annand, unsure how she had, but she had. I sadly told her that the finish was at lake Annand and we were walking back to our cars that were parked at picnic point!  The poor lady was horrified and turned around to trek back down the hill to the finish!!  Somehow she had obviously not looked at the 4km course map and had followed race finishers walking to picnic point to collect their cars, rather than continuing on Mackenzie Street to the finish line at lake Annand.  I don't know how she could have missed seeing all the people at the finishline in the distance??  The race course had been displayed everywhere leading up to the event and the course has not changed in the 6 years that the race has been going, in saying that,  I myself, have always looked at the couse for any fun-run or walk that I have done over the years and never just "followed the crowd", unless you count City 2 Surf in Sydney, where you have no choice but to follow the crowd!  Anwayay I hope she made it to the finish line and Im sure will need a good rest after her very long 4km walk!!

The Kids and I at the Foggy Start of the 4km, 2012 Peak to Park Fun Run in Toowoomba.
It is estimated just over 3000 people completed  the event, raising around $25 000 to $30 000 for the recipient  charities.

More Fun Run Fun to come....

Until Next Time
